AMD had a strong participation at SolidWorks World, next to Hewlett-Packard booth. On the last day of the event, Bernard Charles, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dassault Systèmes stopped by the AMD FirePro booth to check out some of the new ways enhancing the working experience with SolidWorks using AMD FirePro graphics solutions.
Antoine Reymond presenting to Bernard Charles, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dassault Systemes and Monica Menghini, EVP, Industry, Marketing and Corporate Communications the value of graphics and small form factors in the hands of all manufacturing engineers for managing and monitoring work-in-process on a factory floor. Bernard was just amazed of the level of graphics and ability to port a full DS product such as 3DVIA Composer on a tablet.AMD FirePro™ Technology and user-experience demonstrations included:
• a 6-monitor AMD Eyefinity multi-display set-up driven by a single AMD FirePro™ V9800 graphics card showing an 18 Million triangle airplane model loaded into SolidWorks 2012 and rotating in RealView mode with full shadows, textures and environment reflections. Total combined display resolution was 5760X3200 pixels. • a 4-monitor AMD Eyefinity multi-display set-up running on an HP EliteBook 8760w. This technical documentation/publication workflow demonstration showed multiple simultaneous applications (all displayed simultaneously) and included SolidWorks, 3DVIA Composer and various 3DXML players. This demonstration walked visitors to the booth through a workflow that showcased design, engineering, and creation of working manufacturing and maintenance instruction for a new vehicle.
• an AMD FirePro™ 3D stereoscopic technology demonstration utilizing enhanced (prototype) AMD FirePro Catalyst Pro driver software. This demonstration used active 3D stereographic technology (via head-mounted shutter glasses and a specialized 120Hz display) and allowed for viewing and exploring of an animated aircraft engine dataset/model from within both e-Drawings and the standard SolidWorks 2012 viewport.
• A demonstration system powered by the brand new AMD FirePro™ V3900 professional graphics card just announced at SolidWorks World. The AMD FirePro™ V3900 provides an unbeatable workstation-class experience at an unbeatable entry-level price ($129 USD). The demonstration showed a FirePro™ V3900 powering a multi-monitor set-up with two very large, datasets (thousands of parts) simultaneously displayed in RealView mode from within SolidWorks 2012. • An AMD/Windows-powered handheld tablet prototype running a full version of 3DVIA Composer. This leading-edge technology prototype clearly showed implications and increasing feasibility for using Windows-powered portable computing to assist in a broad range of use-cases from shop floor & industrial manufacturing, to field maintenance -and beyond.
