HomeExtending Dassault Systèmes' Solutions thanks to approved partners

Friday, 30 July 2010

This is more and more obvious: 3D is not only the future: it is still the present. We build cars in 3D, we watch movies in 3D, we design our living-room in 3D, etc… But why is it so successful? Maybe because people can easily translate visually what they think of and interact with their peers to share emotion, opinions, ideas,…

In parallel with the development of powerfull and easy-to-use 3D technologies such as 3dvia, social networks are more and more popular. People interact with each other on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn either on their computer and thanks to their iPhone for instance. Sharing ideas and sending messages “in 3D” has never been so easy.

Doing what we say

The aim of PLM MarketPlace is to deliver more value to our customers thanks to the cooperation between our Solutions Providers and our Value Added Resellers. In other words, we sell 3D solutions all day long. This is nice but not enough.

We now want to go a step ahead and build a kind of “PLM MarketPlace in 3D”. In the end, this is quiet logical for people promoting 3D technologies! This is why we have built a virtual showroom allowing people to discover the program in 3D! With your own-made avatar, you can walk through the scene, watch videos, read products data sheet and presentations, interact with other people visiting the scene at the same time, contact us, and much more!

Be our guest!

This PLM MarketPlace in 3D is available now, feel free to enter by following the instructions below.

For those of you wanting to share the experience with customers, colleagues, partners,… you can share the link of the demo video as well.

This is a first step for us and we are looking after your comments, suggestions and ideas to improve the next scenes we are working on with our partners part of the PLM MarketPlace.
Feel free to share your feedback by leaving comments on this blogpost!

FOKKER ELMO is one of the world largest providers of systems and wiring for the aerospace and defense industry. The company has developed a tool (WDMS - Wiring, Design and Manufacturing System) to handle the increased complexity of wiring harness design, development, integration, and production, which involves both control and process of an enormous amount of data. In 2009, FOKKER ELMO signed a contract with the Canadian aircraft manufacturer BOMBARDIER AEROSPACE to design and supply the electrical wiring Interconnection system for the new CSeries aircraft family.

Recently, FOKKER ELMO contracted ELSYS’s solutions to convert existing wiring system diagram and started new harness design add-on’s.

Both companies started two projects, combining their knowledges and expertises.

The first project was the implementation of an automatic retrieval and transfer of the existing PTC CADDS 5 schematics and data into the ELSYS’s ELECTRE software for electrical schematics.

Then, in the frame of the CSeries project, FOKKER ELMO and ELSYS are setting up an application that will automatically generate wiring diagrams from both WDMS and external supplier’s data.

GKN Aerospace, a Tier One supplier to the global aviation industry, sought to eliminate the time-consuming process of troubleshooting composite lay-ups on the shop floor and avoid data translation concerns.
Leveraging Dassault Systèmes PLM solutions, the company reduced manufacturing engineering time and greatly improved collaboration throughout the extended enterprise. In that process, Pertinence Suite from Intercim was chosen to ensure digital continuity from engineering to production. The solutions enable GKN Aerospace to electronically deliver planning and work instructions to the shop floor, monitor information, and generate activity and quality reports to tightly connect the physical world of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) with the virtual world of PLM.

A Picture Is Worth One Thousand Words

Powerpoint presentation and brochures are really important to understand what a product can do. But it’s not always enough. The best way to understand something is to talk with someone who will explain all the features you have to know. A few weeks ago Intercim made a webinar about composite manufacturing and they had the great idea to record it. Everybody can now access to this webinar and see what Pertinence Suite can do.

Watch the recorded Webinar, « Operational Excellence for Composite Manufacturing »

As the chinese proverb says “A Picture Is Worth One Thousand Words”, here is a video about Intercim that is worth watching if you want to have an overall idea of what these guys do, in just 4 mins.

Last week, Dassault Systèmes hosted two major events at its Paris DS Campus: the SwYm Conference (formerly DEVCON) and the 2010 Partner Summit. Attendees had the opportunity to enjoy cool demos of 3DVIA Studio: the game Billions and a realistic 3D and interactive view of a city.

Guests were wowed by this experience thanks to two of our technology partners: Hewlett-Packard who brought its latest HP Z800 Workstation and AMD with its high-end ATI Eyefinity technology 3D graphics card.

Using ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology allows professionals as well as gamers to get the most out of the 3DVIA product range to have superior lifelike experiences. The 3D professional graphic cards are also fully certified for working with a variety of other Dassault Systèmes brands, including CATIA.

Watch Antoine Reymond (AMD Senior Strategic Alliance Manager) and Tom Schorr (Dassault Systèmes Technology Partner Programs Manager) demoing the power of 3DVIA Studio and ATI Eyefinity technology running together.

If you attended the SwYm Conference / Partner Summit, what are your impressions about the ATI Eyefinity 3D graphics card showcased there?

Untitled 1 For product designers, simulation specialists and manufacturers, there is an ongoing desire to increase innovation and reduce design time and costly errors. To help address that need, the new ATI FirePro desktop and mobile workstation professional graphics delivers ground-breaking features and performance for Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA users working with challenging design and engineering projects, while helping boost productivity and pushing designs to the limits throughout the manufacturing process.

For example, the ATI FirePro V8800 features 1600 Stream Processing units that offer up to 2.6 TeraFLOPS of power with 147.2 GB/sec of memory bandwidth1. Using ATI Eyefinity technology, 2CATIA professionals can increase their desktop real estate and workflow productivity to view large scale models and multiple applications by running up to four independent and simultaneous 30-inch displays from a single card3.

The ATI FireProTM product range includes:
- Entry Level: Workstation quality for balance price and performance
ATI FirePro V4800 Professional Graphics Cards
- Mid-Range: Advanced features and outstanding performance for complex visualization
