The challenging economic climate of the last year means that it is very important to have an accurate uptodate view of market opportunity. Theorem Solutions has recently completed an in depth study on CAD data exchange in the UK West Midlands Automotive supply chain which has revealed CATIA’s leading position in UK automotive design and manufacturing companies.

The objective of the study was to identify the types and scale of challenges experienced in CAD data exchange amongst the UK West Midlands Automotive Suppliers. This detail is important to Theorem in order to ensure the development and supply of the ideal interoperability technology to meet the current and anticipated future needs of this important industry sector.

Whilst the core objectives of the project were to identify CAD data exchange problems the work revealed a great deal of further information, including the mix of CAD systems in place. In this respect the project discovered that CATIA dominates the UK West Midlands automotive supply chain with more than twice the number of installations as the next nearest CAD system. When the number of installed workstations is considered the CATIA dominance is seen to be even greater.

The market research confirmed that data exchange is still a problem for many companies in the automotive sector. CATIA emerges as the most widely used CAD system in the survey and this reinforces Theorem’s commitment to providing CATIA users with ‘best in class’ interoperability solutions.

Do these findings match your experience of automotive supply chains?
Do you have problems with data exchange?

Hi everyone,
As Anthony is gone on Holidays, discovering new landscape and having some deserved rest, I will take over his blog contribution and try to tell you nice stories with our partners.  And we have some interesting things to tell you.

Speed and strength, what's under the hood?!
Daydreaming can allow us to ponder the many wonders of the world. Spending passing moments contemplating how a passenger ferry can travel at such high speeds for such sustained periods of time for example or perhaps how a yacht can be so fast, yet so agile?
Without great engine systems, neither of these things would be possible and without MTU, one of the world's leading manufacturers of off-road diesel engines many rail, road, agricultural or military vehicles and machines would not exist in the capacity that they do today.

Something is new with MTU!
With the current global economic crisis biting hard, companies are being forced to save money, slash budgets and reduce man-hours, but workloads remain unchanged.  MTU realized that they would have to speculate to accumulate and to save time and money invested in an installation of TPM, Theorem Process Manager, helping them solve the CAD interoperability challenges they faced.
The installation of TPM has enabled MTU to save time through automating MTU’s complex and labour intensive CAD data exchange processes where CATIA and or Pro/E data had to be prepared and dispatched for a variety of customers – each with differing requirements.

TPM enabled MTU to significantly reduce turnaround times and save them around 60% in man-hours on CAD interoperability tasks.
Discover how TPM can work for you. Read the full MTU story

CAD DATA MIGRATION from CADDS to CATIA

Computer Aided Design is now in its fifth generation. The exciting promise of the early 1980s is now being delivered with unimaginable modelling capabilities on the designer’s desktop running on the humble personal computer. Computer Aided Design has come of age and today’s powerful, intuitive, flexible PLM systems can replace everything that went before at a fraction of the cost. Strangely even despite the massive strides that have been made in functionality and usability some of the old systems still survive. They have not just survived but have become entrenched and are acting as a barrier to the extension of new systems that model more easily, have truly integrated databases and are less costly to run.

How do the businesses where CADDS has become entrenched, take advantage of the newer, more powerful and less expensive PLM systems and particularly CATIA V5 and CATIA V6?
