One of the mottos of PLM MarketPlace has always been "Connecting Partners". We believe that joining forces is the best way to deliver all the value companies can bring to customers. This is what Dassault Systèmes and its ecosystem do.

Today, we would like to share a story we are quiet proud of. You have surely heared of Noomeo, a French 3D scanners manufacturer. They are very active on the PLM MarketPlace blog. Thanks to the PLM MarketPlace, Noomeo found a new business partner located several thousands kilometers away from Toulouse, where they are based!

Noomeo signed a distribution agreement with MediaTec (Mexico) at le Bourget Airshow last June. Both companies came to each other thanks to the PLM MarketPlace of Dassault Systèmes. "The long term cooperation inside the Dassault Systèmes ecosystem gives back results in terms of networking and partners around the world", said Vincent LEMONDE, CEO of Noomeo.

"MediaTec is proud to represent Noomeo in this area of the world. In Mexico, both the education and industrial markets grow very fast. The orientation of OptiNum and NumiSoft toward the industrial needs corresponds perfectly to the expectations of the customers of MediaTec", said Alfred RODRIGUEZ President of MediaTec.

Bringing Noomeo's solutions to the Mexican market is clearly a great achievement for both companies and will, of course, benefit to local customers. The web has the power to reduce time and distances but when talking about business, proximity and contact in real life are key, don't you agree?

Here is our last NumiSoft 2011 new feature introduction. Today, we'll speak about sharp edges refinement.

From 2010 with NumiSoft you captured 3D without having any possibility to identify specific geometrical aspects at the scanned object.

Now with NumiSoft 2011 you have access to expect functions dedicated to the refinement of sharp edges. This will help you in your reverse engineering process for surfaces identification.

The closer to the real geometry, the easier your reverse engineering process will be.

So, now, let us go back in time and remember you what NumiSoft is (almost) all about:

- Controlled Individual Shoots

- Quality Control of  Measurement Process

- Reconstruction Quality Report

- Make sure your scan is of best quality

- Sharp Edges Refinement

What do you think about NumiSoft 2011? Do you share our excitement? Does it open new perspectives in your business?

Tell us!

Monday, 06 June 2011

Our tour of the new features of NumiSoft 2011 is almost done now and it is time to discover the 4th innovation brought by our brand new software.

From 2010 with NumiSoft you captured 3D without any access to the source information.

Now with NumiSoft 2011, you can access at any time, to 4 pictures representing the source information captured by the two cameras of OptiNum.

One set of picture contains the pattern information used for 3D reconstruction, the other set is used for auto-positionning and texture information.

If your row pattern information is blurred, the final result will certainly not be good enough: try again!

If you get areas hyper-exposed (flash lob), you may get holes in the point cloud: try again too!

"3D made easy", isn't it? ;-)

We continue our exploration of Noomeo's NumiSoft 2011 new capabilities.

Since 2010, with NumiSoft, you have been able to capture 3D without any possibility to access the quality of the registration of the point clouds together.
Now, with NumiSoft 2011, you access to the average distance between point clouds after registration.

Moreover, you can export this “quality report” in order to keep this information associated to the 3D point cloud.

Pretty useful feature, isn't it?

The Noomeo Team.

Monday, 23 May 2011

It's Monday meaning it's time to discover the second new feature brought by Noomeo NumiSoft 2011. Last week, we introduced the "Controlled Individual Shoots" tool, allowing to store 500 000 points per view.

Today's new feature is called "Quality Control of Measurement Process". From 2010 with NumiSoft you captured 3D without any quality control. Now with NumiSoft 2011 you get a quick overview of the measurement quality thanks to a colorimetric vision that represents 3D point.

Blue is the highest quality and red is the lowest quality.

If you get only red points, then... try again!

Don't forget to visit the PLM MarketPlace blog Monday next week to discover the third new feature of NumiSoft 2011.

Monday, 16 May 2011

As announced Friday last week, today is the day to unveil the first new feature of our brand new NumiSoft 2011. Today we'll speak about "controlled individual shoots".

In 2010, NumiSoft allowed you to capture 3D to video streaming. Now with NumiSoft 2011, you measure 3D geometry with controlled individual shoots. This evolution allows to store 500 000 points per shoot giving highly accurate points clouds.

You can now get accurate results, using an easy capture process, while controlling 100% of the measured data.

See you next week, same time, same place, to discover the second new feature brought by NumiSoft 2011!

Inventis is an engineering company specialized in digital design. It is equipped with CATIA software for the design studies and 3DVIA Composer for the creation of instructions of assembly for design. Inventis has a real know-how for:
- Industrialization projects
- Prototypes and specific engine research
- On site statement and scanning

Inventis is a subcontractor of Alstom in Belfort (France) in the field of big power’s plants on production sites. The company was in charge to help them measure important parts of the alternators currently in maintenance process.

The company had chosen to acquire the OptiNum 3D scanner through the company Keonys, a distributor of Noomeo, and also the main distributor of Dassault Systèmes software solutions in France.

We looked for a scanning solution as a complement to our manual method. The intervention on the alternator is complicated and requires to find one hundred of measures, but certain parts are inaccessible for us due to their geometry. Thanks to the 3D OptiNum scanner, we can make the measures on complex forms, as for example one "slanted circle» and a stator bar (picture). We made our first measures at the end of 2010 with the OptiNum scanner on General Electric machines in the United States. The results are very positive. We imported the point clouds file on a CATIA’s module and proceeded to the reconstruction of a RDS surface to get a 3D CAD model”, explains Pascal Breniaux, founder and manager of Inventis.

Ergonomic, so flexible and very successful product, a training day is enough for mastering the tool.

The OptiNum 3D scanner’s use opens for us new markets for very specialized services. Three hours were enough to scan the stator bar in the United States in real situation. In our return, we presented positive results to our Alstom customer. Create 3D digital models and allow our customer to participate in the international calls for niche markets are a new realistic challenge. We are now ready for this challenge”, concludes Pascal Breniaux.

Stay tuned for all the next news of Noomeo!

Friday, 10 December 2010

As you read in Alexandre's "ECF2010: first agora tour" blogpost, Noomeo was present at this major customer event, as a Dassault Systèmes' technological partner. We were delighted to welcome visitors at our booth, showing the value and capabilities of the OptiNum 3D scanner. In addition, Ludovic BRETHES, our CSO, held a conference in partnership with Dassault Aviation, about "Automatic control of complex assembly using 3D Digital Mockup and Scanning". As you can see, around 90 people were happy to discover this new and promising cooperation:

For the 3rd year, Noomeo participated at the Euromold trade show in Frankfurt (Germany), from December 1st to 4th, 2010. Once again, it’s a new success for OptiNum and our team!

The OptiNum 3D scanner "shines" and "flashes" again thanks to its innovative features, in front of the 60.000 visitors coming from all around the world. The rich diversity among the exhibitors present this year confirms us the importance of OptiNum's place in the industrial market. The different experts from Moldmaking and Tooling to Design and Application Development were mainly interested by the new features related to "edge measurement" and "point clouds regular sampling".

But... during the show, the elements were against us! We faced flights delays due to the snow which led to some luggage lost, set up the booth in the middle of the night, all of this in a cold and icy weather... We, living in Toulouse and its 20°C in early December, we are not used to that :-). Nevertheless, we found some energy and were in the starting blocks, ready to welcome you!

See you next year!

Noomeo, together with its partners Dassault Systèmes, Raison Pure and Strate Collège Designers, introduced the concept of «Beyond ideas : When virtual sublimates the beauty experience» in the BEYOND BEAUTY – Creative Trade Show that took place in Paris from September 13th to 15th, 2010.

Noomeo's partners, with their respective skills, illustrated this concept using the lifecycle of a cosmetic object, from its design to its market launch and promotion. Noomeo introduced its OptiNum 3D scanner technology at different steps of the industrial process: design and marketing, production quality control, virtual customer experience.

Thanks to their cooperation with Dassault Systèmes, the team made of Noomeo , Strate Collège Designers and Raison Pure were able to federate this concept into a coherent software suite. The message was very well received by the cosmetic industry and by the designers. Noomeo expects significant returns from the introduction of this 3D scanning innovative technology in this fast growing business.

More than words, let's enjoy a live demo of Noomeo's OptiNum performed at Beyond Beauty Paris 2010!

Ever wondered how your own 3D avatar would look like for real? With James Cameron's movie "Avatar", 3D is becoming very popular and numerous Hollywood productions are going 3D these days. But these are movies, and all of us can only dream about having a 3D avatar and watching him as a separate entity.

Now we have made a really surprising experience at one of our local Dassault-Systemes 2010 Kick-Offs. In order to get a closer look to what's 3D, two of our Partners came with their hardware . They took a 3D picture of all of those not afraid to do so (no, no, there is no risk with 3D pictures!!) and then printed them in 3D.
How does it work?

Getting a 3D picture of your face

Noomeo's 3D scanner named Optinum goes around you in order to scan your face. You can see it in real time on a laptop. Numisoft is the software that reconstruct your 3D face in the computer so that there is no "hole" in your 3D model.

In this picture you can see Pierric Le Quement from Noomeo scanning our boss Bernard Charles, CEO of Dassault-Systemes.

Printing your face in 3D

The model information is sent to Objet's software in order to put together several 3D faces before sending them to Objet's 3D printer. So OK we have there several faces, but this is not mass production! Wink: Michael from Objet has highlighted my face in blue ;-)

Now Objet's 3D printer from the Connex Family is starting to build our faces in 3D, layer by layer (see the blue light on the left picture). When finished printing, we get nice 3D faces on a Business Card size (see right picture)

Here we are, everybody's got its 3D badge?
Your host proudly presenting its 3D trophy as a badge, with Michael Anton from Objet on the back. You can also see the Connex 3D printer on the left, not so big for such a machine, isn't it?

Well, the show is over now. I'm pretty sure that this kind of process will become straightforward in the future and that everybody will be able to have a physical 3D snapshot of its face soon.
I can tell you that it's really a strange feeling to watch ourself "from outside" in our hands! Only rich and famous people get their Portrait bust today, but it will not take long to share 3D faces on Facebook with your friends! 3D will be a reality for all very soon.

What was funny afterward was that male were happy just because they could watch themselves in 3D, while (some of) our female colleagues were eventually disappointed when seeing themselves without nice lightening on cosmetics... Well, we still have some work to do before our avatars are close to reality. Hopefully we can dream with 3D movie avatars in the meanwhile!

What's your view on the 3D scan & 3D print benefits? do you know any integrated business in this domain? Would you consider this can reach mass-market for consumers? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this topic.

PS: Great thanks to Pierric from Noomeo and to Michael from Objet, they could make this happen.

Thursday, 24 December 2009

We are almost at the end of 2009 and I take a short break before tonight's Christmas celebration to have a look at how the PLM MarketPlace program evolved this year...

First, many new Referenced Partners joined bringing along a lot of new, innovative and comprehensive solution one click away from customers:
- Elsys, with CATELECTRE, ELECTRE and SMARTELECTRE in the field of electrical harness design;
- Icona Solutions, with the aesthetica product range helping you to face perceived quality challenges;
- Magestic and its Truenest and Truelaser View solutions for the composite manufacturing process;
- Mecamaster, with Mecamaster Analysis (Tolerance analysis);
- Noomeo, offering handheld 3D-scanners.
Take a look at what they offer and don't hesitate to drop their solutions in your shopping cart if need a quote or simply just more information!

We had also dozens of Value Added Resellers joining the program. They are now almost 100 all over the world able to deliver all the solutions listed on the PLM MarketPlace catalog to their customers.

The motto of the PLM MarketPlace has always been "Connecting Partners". Thus, we wanted to go a step ahead and open new channels where Referenced Partners, VARs and Customers would have the opportunity to interact:
- We launched a Twitter in April and today, more than 600 people (mostly users, partners, and 3D enthusiasts) follow us and discuss! Join them for free on Twitter!
- "See what you mean" is Dassault Systèmes' motto. This is why we gathered all the videos of our Referenced Partners on a dedicated channel on YouTube. People can now see for real what their software do, ask questions and share the videos in an easy way.
- Last but not least, something we are very proud of: the PLM MarketPlace application for iPhone. Thanks to it, bring all the PLM MarketPlace (RSS news, blog and, above all, the catalog, including product datasheets, videos and images) whereever you go! This application is free and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store.

This was all the exciting stuff we did in 2009! But we've been working on even more cool things for 2010! Next year, PLM MarketPlace will bring you even more opportunities. Want to know what? I suggest you to come back here next week... ;-)

I would like also to thank all our PLM MarketPlace partners all over the world for helping our customers every day with their solutions and knowledge.

On behalf of all the PLM MarketPlace Team, I wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Anthony Rosendo

A few days ago, from December 2 to December 5 2009, designers and engineers met in Frankfurt, Germany for the Euromold 2009 World Fair for Moldmaking and Tooling, Design and Application development.

Based on its name, this event was first dedicated to the European market but there are more and more attendees and exhibitors coming from several parts of the world. The number of exhibitors has increased by 10% (in comparison to 2008), with a significant part of people coming from China. This year, there were 1354 exhibitors from 37 countries attending the event.

Scanning Euromold

The PLM MarketPlace team wasn't there but we were well represented with some of our partners attending this major event: Geometric, Cenit and our new provider: Noomeo
Since it was the first time Noomeo attended this event, they kindly offer you a little feedback of the event along with their personal feeling.

For the very first time, Noomeo attended on its own to an international show, Euromold in Frankfurt, for presenting its “scan for dummies” that can scan everything in every place without any skills. Nevertheless, we were in the middle of high level industries involved in the mold making and manufacturing processes. We welcome on our booth “000’s” and “000’s” of visitors who were really impressed by the ease of use of the system and the way it is responding to industrial processes while being so simple to handle. During this event, we had the great pleasure to demonstrate the accuracy of the OptiNum solution on a wide range of “objects”, such as a plastic bumper of a car, a portion of a injection mold, a plush of Hamtaro, a Volkswagen Combi toy, a bronze casted statue and a charming face of a booth hostess. All these lifelike experiences allowed us to capture and use in 3D these people and object as simply as taking a picture of them. Because OptiNum’s technology is unique, our capabilities are very huge and we are able to answer to very industrial and serious processes and needs. The next event we will attend will be Imagina on February 3rd to 5th, in Monaco where we will be just in front of your preferred CAD system vendor and our best partner, Dassault Systèmes.

According to the picture above, it seems that their 3D handheld scanners attracted a lot of people!

Did you attend Euromold 2009? What are your impressions?

Alexandre and the Noomeo team.
