The Dassault Systèmes (3DS) family keeps on growing with the acquisition today of Elsys. The Elsys product range, including ELECTRE, CATELECTRE and SMARTELECTRE, enables the automatic creation of millions of 2D schematics from functional-logical laster data. This eliminates the tedious, costly and error-prone process of interactive manual creation of schematics.

Elsys' solutions are used by customers from various industries, including aerospace (Dassault Aviation, Air France Industries,...) and automotive (Renault Trucks) for instance. Talking about Dassault Aviation, see what their Executive Vice President, Research, Design & Engineering, Mr. Didier Gondoin, thinks about Elsys: “With hundreds of kilometers of wires, electrical systems in modern aircrafts are highly complex and having an integrated solution that brings together our existing electrical applications on a single platform is a must. We are long-time users of Elsys’ innovative applications, including ELECTRE for electrical schematics, and Elsys has a deep understanding of our electrical processes. We believe that this acquisition will successfully deliver next-generation electrical process integration to Dassault Aviation as a critical feature of our current Version 6 implementation.”

Of course, V6 users will be offered the possibility to get the most of Elsys' solutions. Customers will have the possibility to associate schematic documents to the real product's behavior. Thanks to the V6 and its unique convergence platform, 3DS will be able to provide revolutionary multi-disciplinary integrated solutions, from electrical fo fluidics to electronics.

Elsys has been a long-time partner of the PLM MarketPlace program. In addition to their website and our pages, we really encourage you to read a few blogposts about them on the PLM MarketPlace. This will help you to know more about our new colleagues, including interesting success stories with Fokker Elmo and Air France Industries.

Again, bienvenue Elsys!

FOKKER ELMO is one of the world largest providers of systems and wiring for the aerospace and defense industry. The company has developed a tool (WDMS - Wiring, Design and Manufacturing System) to handle the increased complexity of wiring harness design, development, integration, and production, which involves both control and process of an enormous amount of data. In 2009, FOKKER ELMO signed a contract with the Canadian aircraft manufacturer BOMBARDIER AEROSPACE to design and supply the electrical wiring Interconnection system for the new CSeries aircraft family.

Recently, FOKKER ELMO contracted ELSYS’s solutions to convert existing wiring system diagram and started new harness design add-on’s.

Both companies started two projects, combining their knowledges and expertises.

The first project was the implementation of an automatic retrieval and transfer of the existing PTC CADDS 5 schematics and data into the ELSYS’s ELECTRE software for electrical schematics.

Then, in the frame of the CSeries project, FOKKER ELMO and ELSYS are setting up an application that will automatically generate wiring diagrams from both WDMS and external supplier’s data.

ELSYS serves top companies from aerospace, automotive, rail and manufacturing industries. Their applications are designed for industries which develop products combining mechanical and electrical technologies and require specialized diagram, bundle and harness design and wiring applications.

Air France Industries core business has always been the maintenance or modification of aircraft, being civil or military. For some years now, Air France Industries has been developing competency in aircraft design, leading to the improvement of passengers & crews comfort and also the avionics. In those areas, they faced some electrical systems related challenges. In this field, thanks to ELSYS and Dassault Systèmes, Air France Industries is now fully able to meet their customers' expectations.

The challenges

• Reduce aircraft down time.
• Keep to the standards and environments of every aircraft manufacturer.
• Harmonize designs around a consistent set of electrical design and management tools.
• Manage the product life cycle from end to end and ensure traceability.

How ELSYS made things happen

The initial solution chosen by Air France Industries is based on ELECTRE for wiring diagram studies, SMARTELECTRE for the management of electrical data in SMARTEAM, and CATELECTRE for integration with CATIA.

By doing so, Air France engineers can accommodate the maintenance, modification and design requirements of aircraft systems and specific features (seat layout, galleys, toilets, passenger entertainment, etc.) while improving aircraft down times. These solutions make it easier and simpler for Air France Industries to satisfy the special requirements of aeronautical engineering, such as:
- ATA standards (Airbus and Boeing), when modifying and creating electrical engineering documents,
- Specific documentation requirements in connection with configuration management,
- Simple, transparent management of electrical parts lists, however complex, in SmarTeam.

The customer's voice

The ELECTRE solution that has been implemented saves us an enormous amount of time and totally meets the manufacturers’ standards. It covers almost 100 % of our requirements…The complementary of the electrical CAD products from ELSYS and the data management products from Dassault Systèmes is excellent. With the SMARTELECTRE integration platform, it means we can manage the life cycle of electrical products from end to end. This advanced solution makes a major contribution to our 100 % quality objective… I have great confidence in ELSYS - they’re very honest people. They are proactive, customer-focused and always find the solution. With them you can say that it’s possible, it’s quick and it’s not expensive! CGM Import-Export is a prime example of this.

We are almost at the end of 2009 and I take a short break before tonight's Christmas celebration to have a look at how the PLM MarketPlace program evolved this year...

First, many new Referenced Partners joined bringing along a lot of new, innovative and comprehensive solution one click away from customers:
- Elsys, with CATELECTRE, ELECTRE and SMARTELECTRE in the field of electrical harness design;
- Icona Solutions, with the aesthetica product range helping you to face perceived quality challenges;
- Magestic and its Truenest and Truelaser View solutions for the composite manufacturing process;
- Mecamaster, with Mecamaster Analysis (Tolerance analysis);
- Noomeo, offering handheld 3D-scanners.
Take a look at what they offer and don't hesitate to drop their solutions in your shopping cart if need a quote or simply just more information!

We had also dozens of Value Added Resellers joining the program. They are now almost 100 all over the world able to deliver all the solutions listed on the PLM MarketPlace catalog to their customers.

The motto of the PLM MarketPlace has always been "Connecting Partners". Thus, we wanted to go a step ahead and open new channels where Referenced Partners, VARs and Customers would have the opportunity to interact:
- We launched a Twitter in April and today, more than 600 people (mostly users, partners, and 3D enthusiasts) follow us and discuss! Join them for free on Twitter!
- "See what you mean" is Dassault Systèmes' motto. This is why we gathered all the videos of our Referenced Partners on a dedicated channel on YouTube. People can now see for real what their software do, ask questions and share the videos in an easy way.
- Last but not least, something we are very proud of: the PLM MarketPlace application for iPhone. Thanks to it, bring all the PLM MarketPlace (RSS news, blog and, above all, the catalog, including product datasheets, videos and images) whereever you go! This application is free and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store.

This was all the exciting stuff we did in 2009! But we've been working on even more cool things for 2010! Next year, PLM MarketPlace will bring you even more opportunities. Want to know what? I suggest you to come back here next week... ;-)

I would like also to thank all our PLM MarketPlace partners all over the world for helping our customers every day with their solutions and knowledge.

On behalf of all the PLM MarketPlace Team, I wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Anthony Rosendo
