In line with our Da Vinci community and thanks to the partnerships we have with the Chateau du Clos Lucé and Scala Archives, Dassault Systèmes has decided to launch a Da Vinci-themed 3D design competition. This competition is opened until April, 18th 2014.

Leonardo Da Vinci, famous for the biggest Italian renaissance polymaths and one of the brightest minds of all times, had a real passion for complex machine concepts.

Even though most of them were genuine visionnary creations, some would not working properly in real life. By complementing the intelligence and vision of the human mind to modern software and hardware tools, we can have those strange machines come to virtual life and simulate their behavior! This contest was launched to illustrate this complementarity.

Based on any of the provided Da Vinci codex, design one of his creation in 3D!

The 1st prize will be awarded to the best design and best post: one HP ZBook 14, plus a chance to have his 3D model exhibited at the Clos Lucé.

The 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded to the two runner-ups, who will respectively receive an AMD FirePro W7000 graphic card and an AMD FirePro W5000 graphic card.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY to participate and to find all the detailed submission information, including an existing list of rare codex!

And a lot of competitors!

Christmas time is coming and we all know the feeling and excitement that come along when you open your presents. We are curious to know what's inside, how it works, etc... This was the challenge faced by our partners AMD and Dell: demonstrating the power of their respective 3D graphics cards and workstations working together.

Partnership is all about joining forces to deliver the best to the market. This is why AMD, Dell and 3DVIA teamed up to demonstrate that the AMD FirePro W7000 graphic card coupled with the Dell Precision T7610 workstation is the ultimate combination for CAD and engineering professionals.

The demonstration enables users to easily step through the 3D experience which identifies the key features of each component, while also explaining how the products operate and are installed. (download the whitepaper by clicking on the image on the right)

This is the perfect tool for the companies' sales teams to use and get from a general overview of the product to very small but important details.
Customers now have a cool experience to understand better the interaction between AMD FirePro graphic cards and Dell workstations.

And the use of both technologies to run Dassault Systèmes' 3DVIA Composer is the perfect proof of the power and capabilities of this combination!

A few weeks ago during the CES held in Las Vegas, AMD offered visitors a pretty interesting experience called the "SurRoundHouse". You thought that immersive 3D environment couldn't make it home? Then, you're wrong!

As Forbes describes it, "SurRoundHouse is a hyperbolic demonstration of just how immersive computing output can be. The demo is actually a house, which will be situated outside the Las Vegas Convention Center. Viewers will enter into what looks like a “farm cabin” with 10 windows, each of which is actually a 55” LED TV. These TVs are tied together by AMD Eyefinity display technology, which allows them to be run from a single PC with three AMD FirePro graphics cards.".

Did you have the chance to be at the heart of this 3D experience during the last CES? Which usages do you imagine with such technology?

DSCC2011 has now closed its doors and, from what I've heard and read, everyone really enjoyed the event. Two days of plenary sessions with executives from our customers and Dassault Systèmes (3DS), technical sessions including customers testimonies and a Technology Showcase where people had the possibility to meet 3DS experts and our partners. This was DSCC2011 and I hop you get the most of it and brought lots of ideas back at the office!

On the PLM MarketPlace side, it was a pleasure for me to see our American customers and partners and share ideas and opinions on what is going on in the industry. Our software and hardware partners came here with very exciting products. This was also a huge opportunity to present the benefits of the program not only to partners but also to our customers. PLM MarketPlace is also made for them and it was great to show them what our partners have to offer them.

I had the chance to meet Emmanuel from DPS. He gave me more details about his company's latest software called Mid Surface Mesher. You can find it on the PLM MarketPlace. Basically, Mid Surface Mesher is a tool aimed at providing CATIA V5 users specific capabilities for generating and meshing medial surfaces of thin structures. They're working on sone nice projects, you should hear more about it soon!

Also, it was a pleasure to see Shauwn and his team from CoastalLogic. This company is regularly present during 3DS events. They have just released convertLogic v5.8 (seamless, automated PDF conversion and metadata stamping of files from your ENOVIA database). This new version brings some new enhancements, including on demand streaming. Stay tuned to CoastalLogic, they've got some exciting new products on the way!

Last but not least, our fellows from AMD were present too. They were demonstrating all the power of their FirePro 3D graphics cards on a DELL workstation and laptop. From a single graphics card, the scenario goes from design using CATIA V5 – for design content creation to technical illustration (3DVIA Composer – technical publication content creation) to 3D XML and web-based assembly instructions (content consumer) used on the field or on the shop floor. The benefits are the great performance on multi-display, the reliability and great value-add of having 3 full HD displays to master the complete workflow. Displays can be arranged side by side to create a giant extended desktop, which can help support such advanced, multi-application workflows. The workflow uses a radio controlled radio controlled R/C car. See by yourself:

Another demo, this time using a Dell Precision M6600:

Impressive, isn't it? And I've got a good news for you if are attending the ECF in a couple of weeks: the AMD team will be there to show you it working live!

Well, that's almost all for DSCC2011 from a PLM MarketPlace perspective! This was our second participation to this event and again, this was great to be there meeting our American customers and partners.

If you are in Europe, we really look forward to seeing you in two weeks in Paris at the European Customer Forum. We'll be present on the PLM MarketPlace booth located in the Technifair during these two days.

For those of you who want to have a refresh on the key messages of DSCC2011, a good way is to follow the hashtag #DSCC11 on Twitter as our attendees sent thousands of tweets during these two days! And if you want to see what the event looked like, we've uploaded some pictures on our Facebook page. Don't hesitate to share yours too!

I guess it's now time for me to see what's happening in the casinos before heading back to Paris! Wish me good luck ;-)

ECF2010's second day has started with lots of interesting sessions all day long. For those who were not able to visit all our Partners' booths, we continue our tour of Agora started yesterday.

We've met Antoine Reymond, AMD Strategic Alliances Senior Manager, who shared the booth with four other partners. Folks from 3dvia used ATI 3D graphic cards, running on Dell workstations, to run a 3D experience on six screens at the same time. The idea was to offer a deep view of an oil platform, offering a really interesting immersive experience. Combined with the ATI V7800, Fujitsu was able to display very high resolution pictures on their Celsius W380. Techviz was presenting immersive solution and rendering using CATIA and folks from Barco were there to showcase visualization and projection systems. Listen to Antoine and see what the renderings are like on these devices:

Romain Lavault from Intercim stopped by our booth and gave us his impressions on the event. You can find out more about their product Pertinence Suite (simplifying communications between engineering, production operations, ERP systems and across the supply chain) on PLM MarketPlace:

Our tour ends with David Sabot, from IGE+XAO. David performed a live demo of their electrical harness design solution See Electrical Harness. As a Gold partner of Dassault Systèmes and having several common customers present here at the event, David and his team were really eager to be at ECF2010. Find out more about See Electrical Harness in the following video:

We hope you enjoyed ECF2010 too and found this "virtual" tour of the event interesting. What are your feeling about the event? Did you enjoy it as much as we did?

We've published some photos and videos in our PLM MarketPlace page on Facebook, have a look at it and don't hesitate to share yours too!

We hope to see you for the next ECF!

"See what you mean" is our motto here at Dassault Systèmes. This slogan refers to what our PLM solutions can do and how they can improve the user experience. But seeing is not just a matter of software. You can use the best software in the world (these can be found here ;-)) but without a good 3D rendering, it is very difficult to “see what you mean”.

Advanced Micro Devices (aka AMD) is one of the key Dassault Systèmes' Technology Partners. Today, we are proud to announce that their ATI FireProTM professional graphics 3D cards family is referenced on the PLM MarketPlace. Users are now offered the possibility to ask for information about AMD's device and be connected to one of their people!

At Dassault Systèmes, we consider AMD's products as one of the key enablers to deliver the power of our software. Take a look at Fred's video in which he explains how are AMD 3D graphic cards provide accelerated performance:

Have a look at what these guys do, 3D rendering is simply amazing! Also, don't miss their new ATI FireProTM V8800 Professional Graphics, setting new standards.
